Rod power, line rating and lure rating, explained with a real spec table

We have not hands-on tested these products. Specs are summarized from the linked pages, checked October 21, 2026, and may change. Confirm on the source before buying.

Spec tables list a rod's power (for example ultra light, light, medium or medium heavy) alongside a line rating and a lure rating. In the Ugly Stik GX2 lineup, for example, ultra light models list 2-6 lb line and 1/32-1/4 oz lures, medium models list 6-15 lb line and 1/8-5/8 oz lures, and medium heavy models list 8-20 lb line and 1/4-3/4 oz lures. Staying inside those ranges is the simplest way to match a rod to your line and lures.
